AC Cugini Concussion Awareness Education Program
Online Training Requirement for Coaches, Team Managers, Parents, Players
All AC Cugini coaches, team managers, one parent per family, and every player (
age 8 and older) must complete the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) online training course once.
- The online training is available at: http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/index.html.
- At the start of the training, you will be asked to enter your name, which will be printed on the certificate once the training is completed.
- To get credit for taking the training, please save a copy of the certificate as a PDF file and email to the AC Cugini office: [email protected] or mail a copy to AC Cugini, PO Box 165, Great Falls, VA 22066.
- To encourage training participation, AC Cugini will conduct a raffle for special prizes, once training completion reaches 100% coach participation and 80% membership participation (to consist of team managers, players and one parent per family).
Additional Requirements for Team Officials
1) AC Cugini’s Executive Director emails all Cugini coaches and team managers the following CDC Concussion Awareness and Prevention documents, prior to each Fall and Spring season, which they are required to read and keep on file and at the field. The email to coaches and team managers also includes a link to the complete Concussion Policy on the AC Cugini website.
2) AC Cugini’s Executive Director advises all AC Cugini coaches and team managers by email prior to the fall season of the following basic rules and procedures for handling a suspected concussion:
If a coach suspects that a player has a concussion, they should take the following steps:
1. Remove athlete from play.
2. Ensure athlete is evaluated by an appropriate health care professional. Do not try to judge the seriousness of the injury yourself.
3. Inform the athlete's parents or guardians about the known or possible concussion and give them the copy of the CDC Concussion Fact Sheet.
4. Allow athlete to return to play only with permission from an appropriate health care professional.
Outreach to Parents and Athletes
AC Cugini’s Executive Director emails all Cugini parents and players the following the CDC documents prior to each fall season or whenever a new player joins AC Cugini. The email to parents and players also includes a link to the complete Concussion Policy on the AC Cugini website.
